Tractor Inspector
Overview
Perform mechanical, exterior body, interior body, tire, and creature comfort inspections on a variety of over the road and in-house equipment by performing the following duties:
Responsibilities
· Prioritize scheduled driver and work in inspections using computer based scheduling. |
· Contact drivers and/or retrieve trucks from yard to perform inspections in designated bay- may include jump starting and/or fueling. |
· Inspect equipment for any defects including: DOT, mechanical, exterior body, interior body, creature comfort and tires. |
· Record defects found during inspection into computer and create repair order. |
· Print copy of inspection for driver and shop office. |
· Go over inspection with driver and explain defects found. |
· Deliver permit books removed during inspections to permit department daily. |
· Look up preventative maintenance items such as: oil change, air filter, DPF cleanings, etc. and include on inspection if required. |
· Good customer service and communication skills are necessary. |
· Basic knowledge of windows, excel, and general computer skills necessary. · Must be able to lift and carry 20lbs and also push and pull 50lbs.
Perform other related work as required. |
Qualifications
Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge
Basic knowledge of the trucking/transportation industry preferred. Basic mechanical knowledge is a plus.
Abilities
Strong organizational, computer, and customer service skills needed. Accurate typing up to 40 WPM. Multitasking and a flexible schedule required. Weekend work is required.
Experience, Education, and Training
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
Candidate must be able to lift and carry 20lbs, and push and pull 50lbs.
Being able to multitask between the computer, phone, and different projects is required.
Working Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environment with exposure to varying weather conditions and chemical odors.
Licensing/Certification
Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation to and from work.
Miscellaneous Requirements
Candidate must be able to pass a job specific post-offer physical prior to beginning employment with Prime, Inc.
