Service Writer
Overview
Our Service Writer’s welcome customers and mechanics in the shop, listens to their concerns and addresses inquiries as necessary. He/she writes reports of a vehicle’s condition and delivers information to a technician.
Responsibilities
- Greets drivers and technicians at the service windows to inquire about their visit or needs.
- Creates detailed notes of maintenance issues associated with customers equipment.
- Creates clear and concise repair orders for technicians and assigns work as necessary.
- Answers phone calls, emails, and messages to facilitate repairs according to the customers needs.
- Performs administrative duties associated with shop operations to ensure a profitable and productive shop environment.
- Familiarizes themselves with work performed in the shop and can print and explain invoices with customers.
- Answer’s customer questions regarding condition of the vehicle, wait time, and costs associated with repairs.
- Works with local dealerships to facilitate repairs to customers equipment as needed.
- Acts in a professional manner and always provides great customer service.
- Schedules work in the shop through phone calls with customers, emails, and general inquiries.
- Works with shop management to promote a positive, customer friendly, and efficient environment for techs and our customers.
- Schedule is Monday-Friday 7am-5pm
Qualifications
Any combination of education, training, and experience providing the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge
Basic knowledge of the trucking/transportation industry preferred. Previous work experience in the transportation industry is required.
Abilities
Strong organizational, computer, interpersonal and customer service skills, written and verbal, required. Must maintain professional but friendly demeanor and pay attention to detail. Must be able to maintain, read and interpret billing statements and work orders. Must communicate clearly and effectively. Accurate typing up to 40 WPM. Multitasking, time management, and a flexible schedule are required. Some weekend work could be necessary for this position.
Experience, Education, and Training
A high school diploma or GED; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Physical Requirements
This position requires being able to sit and remain focused and motivated for long periods of time. Being able to multitask between the computer, phone, and different projects is required.
Working Environment
Both indoor and outdoor working environment with exposure to varying weather conditions and chemical odors. Must be able to work in a results-oriented, fast-paced environment as part of a team. Applicants for the position understand and acknowledge that PRIME implements in active practice a hearing conservation program that is fully aligned with the prescribed OSHA and related regulatory requirements (as defined in 29 CFR 1910.95).
Licensing/Certification
A valid license and a clean driving record are required.
